Why laminated glass for Tennessee commercial work

A laminated glass assembly is two glass lites bonded by a PVB (polyvinyl butyral) or SentryGlas interlayer. The interlayer is what creates the performance gap between laminated and monolithic glass:

• Acoustic — STC 35-45+ depending on lite thickness and interlayer thickness. A monolithic 1/4" lite tops out around STC 30. For Class-A office, hotel, healthcare, and high-end multifamily, the acoustic difference is the difference between a usable interior and one that requires sound-masking retrofit.
• UV blockage — 99% of UV is blocked at the interlayer. Monolithic glass blocks roughly 25%. Interior finishes, artwork, fabrics, and merchandising last materially longer.
• Safety — the interlayer holds glass together upon breakage. Meets ANSI Z97.1 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Category II safety glazing for hazardous locations.
• Security — defeats smash-and-grab forced entry. Bank branches, retail, education, and healthcare specify laminated as baseline security glazing.
• Thermal — paired with a low-E coating and an argon-filled IGU cavity, laminated glass delivers high-performance thermal control while keeping the four other categories above intact.

A standard IGU solves thermal, and nothing else. A monolithic lite solves nothing well. A laminated assembly with the right interlayer thickness and the right IGU pairing solves all five simultaneously, which is why it is the dominant Class-A specification across Tennessee commercial markets.
