What HVHZ actually requires
Miami-Dade and Broward counties are the only High-Velocity Hurricane Zones in the United States. Every exterior assembly — frame, glass, anchorage, sealant — must be part of a tested system that holds a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance (NOA). The NOA proves the assembly passed:
- Large Missile Impact: A 9-pound 2x4 fired at 50 ft/sec hits the glass. The glass and frame must remain intact and weatherproof.
- Cyclic-Pressure Testing: 9,000 cycles of positive and negative wind pressure simulating multi-hour hurricane exposure. The assembly must not fail.
- Water Penetration: Static and dynamic water tests per ASTM E331 / E547.
NOAs are assembly-specific. You cannot mix a frame from one NOA with glass from another and assume it's compliant — it isn't. NOAs live in the Miami-Dade Product Control database.
Systems we install in HVHZ
| System | Manufacturer | Max DP | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| ES7000 commercial window | ESWindows | +85 / -95 PSF | Mid-rise office, hotel punched openings |
| ES8000 curtainwall | ESWindows | +90 / -100 PSF | Class A tower, hotel envelope |
| Vista Multi Slide | Euro-Wall | +80 / -90 PSF | Hospitality, clubhouse, luxury |
| Vista Fold (bifold) | Euro-Wall | +75 / -85 PSF | Restaurant front, indoor-outdoor |
| Vista Pivot | Euro-Wall | +70 / -75 PSF | Lobby entrance, architectural |
| DirectSet storefront | Euro-Wall | +90 / -100 PSF | Retail, restaurant, commercial storefront |
| WinGuard commercial | PGT | +70 / -85 PSF | Light commercial, mixed-use, multifamily |
| Fire-rated NOA | TGP | per UL 9 / UL 10B | HVHZ + fire-rated (rare combo) |
Design pressures are tested-assembly maximums. Actual project DPs depend on glass make-up, anchor spacing, and configuration. Send drawings for project-specific verification.

Our HVHZ workflow
1. Drawing review & system selection
Send architectural drawings to [email protected]. We review for HVHZ applicability, identify NOA-listed assemblies that match the wind load and aesthetic intent, and flag any spec conflicts before submittal.
2. NOA documentation package
For each assembly we deliver the NOA cover sheet, installation instructions, configuration limits, and a glazing schedule keyed to the architect's elevations. The package goes to the GC, owner, and AHJ.
3. Signed/sealed engineering
Florida-licensed engineer reviews anchor calculations and confirms the assembly falls inside the NOA limits for the project wind zone. Signed and sealed drawings issued.
4. Permit submittal
We submit the NOA package and engineering to Miami-Dade product control for review. Typical commercial permit timeline: 6–12 weeks. Mock-ups (when required) add 4–6 weeks.
5. Field installation & testing
Crews from our Naples or WPB offices, often supported by Miami-based field foremen for sustained schedules. AAMA 502 field water testing scheduled per AHJ requirement and witnessed by ACG and the GC.
6. Close-out & warranty
Warranty package, NOA close-out, and maintenance schedule delivered. Standard ACG installation warranty: 5 years labor, manufacturer warranty on glass/frame (10-year on Euro-Wall).
