The Tampa Bay Market

Gulf Coast weather is not a theoretical risk.

Tampa Bay is one of the most hurricane-exposed metropolitan areas in the United States. Hurricane Milton (October 2024) and Hurricane Ian (2022) both struck Florida's Gulf Coast within 100 miles of Tampa. The 2017 AIR Worldwide storm surge study identified Tampa as the most vulnerable major U.S. metro to catastrophic hurricane loss. Every commercial building permit filed in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties must comply with Florida Building Code wind load requirements, which means impact-rated glazing or approved shutters on every opening.

Tampa Bay is not in the HVHZ - that designation is reserved for Miami-Dade and Broward on Florida's Atlantic side - but the Florida Building Code 8th Edition still requires full impact compliance, Florida Product Approval (FL#) documentation, and ASTM E1886/E1996 missile impact testing. Buildings within 1,500 feet of Tampa Bay or the Gulf of Mexico fall in Exposure Category D and require the highest design pressures for commercial glazing systems in the state outside HVHZ.

ACG is one of a small number of commercial glazing subcontractors with a Tampa office and the ESWindows partnership. ESWindows 8000-series storefront, 9000-series impact swing door, and SGD-2020 sliding door systems are factory pre-glazed, Florida Building Code approved, and available in both standard and HVHZ-rated configurations. For Gulf-side amenity projects and high-end hospitality, we also install Euro-Wall folding and multi-slide systems - the premium folding wall product used on Atlantic Fields.

Tampa Bay FAQ

Common questions - answered.

Does Tampa Bay require impact windows on commercial buildings?

Yes. Tampa Bay sits within Florida's wind-borne debris region. The Florida Building Code 8th Edition requires impact-rated glazing or approved shutter systems on all commercial openings. After Hurricane Ian (2022) and Hurricane Milton (2024), enforcement has tightened.

Is Tampa Bay in the HVHZ?

No. HVHZ only covers Miami-Dade and Broward. But Tampa Bay still requires Florida Product Approval (FL#), ASTM E1886/E1996 missile impact testing, and full wind load compliance for Exposure C or D.

How much do commercial impact windows cost in Tampa?

Commercial impact window pricing in Tampa depends on wind zone and Exposure (C or D), the system (storefront, window wall, or Euro-Wall), opening sizes, and the schedule. Send drawings through Send Us Plans, a BuildingConnected invite, or email connor@acglass.com for a 48-hour commercial scope. Call (772) 486-7711.

Does ACG have a Tampa office?

Yes. ACG operates offices in West Palm Beach (HQ), Naples, and Tampa. The Tampa office is at 3031 N Rocky Point Dr W Ste 600, Tampa, FL 33607. Phone (772) 486-7711. The Tampa office serves Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk, and Hernando Counties.

How should I evaluate a Tampa commercial glazing contractor?

Verify Florida CGC license (we hold CGC #1531993), ask for commercial-only references (not residential), request FBC/NOA product approval sheets for the proposed systems, confirm GL + Workers Comp + Auto insurance with Additional Insured language, and look for Procore, BuildingConnected, and BasisBoard activity as a sign of real GC-focused operations.
