Why pass-throughs are their own opening type
A pass-through sits on a counter. Staff lean through it. Guests order through it. Weather hits a smaller opening than a full glass wall, but splash, insects, and after-hours security still matter. Full-height folding or multi-slide walls are a different brief.
Up-swing options
Up-swing (awning-style or gas-strut assisted) panels lift into an open position above the counter. Typical tradeoffs:
- Clear counter when open; headroom and soffit clearance must be drawn
- Single large pane or segmented; weight and hardware matter for daily staff use
- Closing force and latch for end of night should be staff-friendly
- Screen / insect strategies are project-specific add-ons, not assumed here
Folding options
Folding pass-throughs accordion panels to one or both sides of the counter opening. Tradeoffs:
- Can leave a wider clear width when stacked correctly
- Need stacking space at the ends of the counter opening
- More hinges and weather seals to maintain than a simple up-swing
